New year countdown parties? What is the point really? Im really amused from watching snippets of the new year party promo on tv. There's images of large throngs of people gyrating happily as if there is no tomorrow. Other than an easy excuse to get pissed drunk, I dont quite see the point.
Fine, if you want to celebrate having lived 2006 the way you did, or if you want to celebrate the coming of a new year and the expectations you hope for the new year, why large parties with anonymous people you dont know who might step on your toes, brush against you, take your place on the already packed bus/mrt or even steal your taxi as you try to get home?
Why not spend it with people you love? Unless you love all of mankind and want to share your new year with people you have never seen and even if you see them in future along some interchange, you wouldnt even smile at (for fear that the person thinks you mad because he/she was too stoned to remember who the heck you are).
Unless the people who go there are a bunch of lonely people who need to be surrounded by thousands of people to..i dont know..feel loved?
Or perhaps a whole bunch of friends go together then i suppose its somewhat ok.
Either way, its a free world. If it makes people happy (like advertisers and whoever, and of course the attendees) then so be it.
The world needs to be happy once in a while. And maybe, i dont know, large parties sort of bring people together and the happy bug spread from one person to another so everybody's happy.
World peace.
Gosh, this post started out pretty much ok but im losing content and im rambling.
Aiyah, whatever la. Bottom line is, I'd rather stay home :)
Happy New Year to you. May 2007 be a blessed year for everyone :)
